If you’re like me, you find that your prayers can at times become almost rote; a laundry list of concerns and requests that lack a sense of being in real contact with the Almighty God. Recently I realized that I needed to begin my prayers by focusing on the One with whom I am speaking. By daily reminding myself of the wonder of who God really is, I find that my sense of comfort and peace as a result of my time with Him has increased.
I found inspiration for the beginning of my prayers from 1 Chron 29:10-13, and from Psalm 73:23-26. These remind me of the unlimited nature of God’s attributes, His power to work in my heart and life, and His boundless mercy and commitment to me as His own adopted child.
Following this reflection on who God is and what He does, I pray as I feel Scripture directing me, and end with specific prayers for family members and others.
Today I feel led to share the first and second portions of my prayer with you, and pray that God may use it to minister in some way to your heart.
I praise you, Lord, who are God from the beginning to the end.
Yours, Lord, is the greatness,
Everything in heaven and earth is Yours.
Yours is the kingdom; You are exalted as head over everything.
Everything I treasure and honor comes from You;
earth has nothing I desire besides You.
You are the ruler of all things.
Your hands hold the strength and power to lift me up and give me strength.
You are always with me; You hold me by my right hand.
You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but You are the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Thank You, Lord.
I praise Your glorious Name.
Precious Father, thank You for this new day.
Help me to know Your will, to hear Your voice, to grow in knowledge and grace and love, and to serve You well.
Give me an undivided heart, and unity of spirit with my faith family, I pray.
Please send a great revival to Your Church and this world, Father. We so need Your Spirit to work a miracle of conversion through real repentance.
Give us godly leaders, governments and courts, I pray.
Defeat evil in all its forms. I pray that the world-wide web will increasingly serve as a network of Your truth and love, and not as a web of deceit to trap the unwary.
Give wisdom, I pray, in counteracting the lie that uses violence in the name of religion.
Heavenly Father, protect and nurture children everywhere. Raise up godly examples for them, mentors and leaders who will minister to their deepest needs.
I pray for workers to go into the fields that are ripe for harvest for Your kingdom here on earth. May I be found faithful in the opportunities You present; please help me to discern well.
I pray that each one of our family will be drawn to a knowledge of Your truth and a genuine relationship with You.
