This past Sunday I tried to talk a little bit about expanding our understanding of the gospel and the story of what God has done and is doing in His world. I talked a bit about the “kingdom” and Jesus’ emphasis on the kingdom.

We have often heard the “gospel” talked about in our churches as the “plan of salvation” — how you can be sure you will go to heaven when you die. It’s a very “me”-centred message, and it tends to leave us with a much smaller idea of God and his true purposes and plans than Scripture itself gives us.

There are many helpful voices out there right now who are trying to recover a healthier and more robust gospel, one that is in line with the Bible itself, and one that is more about God than me.
