Reflections on Matthew 5: 3-10
Blessed are those who realize that human beings cannot be spiritually self-sufficient and must live in daily dependence on the Holy Spirit. When we realize this and act on it, we become part of the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who grieve over our weakness in relation to God’s righteousness, those who look at the condition of the world and mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the humble, who willingly submit to God in all things and put others before themselves, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those to whom God’s presence and leading is their meat and drink, for they will be filled with what really sustains life.
Blessed are those who show compassion for the lost, the poor and the hurting, for they will in turn be shown mercy.
Blessed are those who sincerely love God and turn from sin, for they shall see God.
Blessed are those who have been reconciled to God and seek to bring reconciliation to others, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who suffer ridicule, rejection and criticism because they uphold God’s standards, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
